Classes

Classes and Open Shop

Getting through the shutdowns and restrictions from the Covid-19 pandemic has been a challenge for many.  Although working from home has been our “normal” the lack of Rock and Gem Shows has not.

We beefed up our “Wholesale” accounts during the year and Tracy took several special orders.  But the classes for both the Southern Utah Rock Club and the Southern Nevada Gem & Mineral Society have kept us on the go.

Tracy has been doing open shop hours at the SURC Lapidary Shop in Cedar City every Wednesday.  This is a time club members can come into the shop and get help with their projects.

Over the past 6 months he’s also taught classes in silversmithing for rings, pendants, sand-casting and fused wired work.  Those classes have been offered at Desert Art Supplies in Henderson, NV as well as SURC.

Here’s a few pictures of his offerings.

There is one class scheduled for April to create sand-casting/welded wire earrings.  Watch the club website for their April calendar and the class information.

The Utah classes are not open to the public.  You must be a member of the rock club due to liability insurance issues.  You can join online at the club website.

The classes in Henderson are held at a private business and you do not need to be a member of their club, but the class fills up fast.  The April class is already full.

Other April events -  Cedar Rock and Bead is hosting a Rock Meet at their store.  Visit them and other rock sellers Sat. April 17th.  Google Cedar Rock and Bead for directions or visit their Facebook Event.  That is also Free Entrance Day for all National Parks.  Plan an all-day outing.  You can’t collect in National Parks, but you can certainly enjoy their beauty.

Until next time - - -
